Development Communications (DevComs) Network under the Journalism Development Programme (JDP) has built the capacity of forty journalists in the last one month.

The participants drawn from media houses in Lagos, Enugu, Kwara were trained in a three-day capacity building workshop at Ostral hotels Lagos between October 16 and 19 while participants from Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna and Abuja were trained at Zecool Hotel Kaduna between November 13 and 16.

The State Capacity building was a follow-up to the initial series of sensitizations of 167 education stakeholders (including 134 journalists and 33 CSOs) held in Lagos, Enugu, Ilorin, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, and FCT.

The capacity building had several activities aside the presentations as it was a time to visit public primary schools and relevant stakeholders.

It was gathered that state governments have a role to play in ensuring quality education in their respective states. ESSPIN has laid good model for the states to follow yet the states need to fund education with their own funds as many schools are lacking infrastructures. Teachers also need to be trained and retrained in line with modern education techniques.
